It is a pleasure to write this letter in endorsement of Hans Owuor for the position of National President-Elect of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA). Having worked closely with Hans for nearly a year within the Region IX Executive Board, I can attest to his exceptional leadership qualities and unwavering commitment to advancing the mission of SNMA.

Hans has repeatedly demonstrated his exemplary leadership skills through his various roles within SNMA. As the Grants Subcommittee Chair, he has displayed unwavering commitment and diligent effort in securing resources crucial for advancing the organization’s goals. Additionally, his involvement as a Future Leadership Project Fellow and his tenure as the Region IX Treasurer highlight his adeptness in efficiently managing projects and finances, both essential competencies for the role of President-Elect.

Notably, during his term as Region IX Treasurer, Hans has organized and led highly successful treasurer workshops for our Regional Leadership Institute meetings. Furthermore, he dedicated extensive effort to securing exhibitors and overseeing the entire exhibitor fair during our Regional Medical Education Conference, an initiative that received widespread acclaim from participants. These achievements stand as a testament to Hans’ exceptional programming skills, his proactive approach, and his effectiveness in fulfilling his responsibilities within the organization.

Beyond his contributions to SNMA, Hans has also distinguished himself in other leadership positions, notably as the founder and president of the Black Student Council on his campus. The alignment of the council’s goals with those of SNMA speaks to Hans’ deep understanding of the issues facing underrepresented minority students in medical education and his commitment to addressing them.

Hans’ academic achievements, including his Magna Cum Laude distinction, highlight his ability to excel academically while actively participating in extracurricular activities. His proven track record of balancing academic rigor with leadership responsibilities bodes well for his capacity to fulfill the demands of the SNMA presidency.

Moreover, Hans brings a vibrant personality and a great sense of humor to any team. His ability to foster a positive and inclusive environment, coupled with his infectious enthusiasm, makes him an asset to any organization. I have no doubt that he will not only lead with distinction but also bring joy and camaraderie to the SNMA board.
